Summary: A stylish mid range wake up light from Philips. Looks great and includes a FM radio, also has a sunset feature helping you get to sleep. Perfect for anyone looking for a great sunrise wake up light alarm and great value too.
The Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock HF3510/01 is in the mid range of the Philips wake up alarms where they have a total of 4 models.
A stylish light that can be used as a reading light, it has an FM radio built in, has a snooze function and 3 nature wake up sounds. Unlike some of the other models in the range this is one of the brightest at 300 lux compared to others which are 200 lux, and also comes with 20 brightness settings. The Sunrise simulation duration can be set to between 20 and 40 minutes and there is also a sunset feature which can be used to help you go to sleep.
You can set the alarm to wake you up in the morning with one of three nature sounds, these are short clips of birds singing, birds in the forest or a Zen Garden sound. If you wish you could set it to play your favourite radio station using its built in FM radio, sadly there is no way to connect it to your phone or add your own music. You can also disable the alarm sound so that there is no noise and it is just the light function that works, however you may want to keep the sound active when you use it for the first few weeks so that your body becomes accustom to this new way of waking up.
With a choice over 20 light settings it is great for using as a reading light, in a darkened room you can set the light to just the right brightness allowing you to be able to read and relax and also help dose off ready to sleep. This can also be set too for when it wakes you up, you may find it needs to be brighter in the morning to get the best effect so you can adjust this all the way up maximum brightness of 300 lux.
As well as waking you up the Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock HF3510/01 also has a sunset feature, this allows you to set the light to slowly dim and darken over a period of time that you can set, the light will dim down like a sunset before complete darkness. If you are listening to the radio too through this the sound will dim down too, getting quieter and quieter before the light and sound have gone off completely.
With this light being LED based allows for long life usage, has a low power usage and also low temperature operation as well. This light also comes with a 2 year warranty.
Looking like a stylish speaker cone or light bulb, it looks very cool and contemporary, it comes in a clean white colour exterior with a smooth front looking like the top of a light bulb. At the bottom on the front is where the time is displayed, this is in a nice relaxing orange/yellow colour and can be set to how bright you want it with 4 dimming settings, it is there but doesn’t stand out in an obvious way like other alarms clocks where it is a bright red led.
Around the top of the light on the ridge are buttons which allow you to set it up, these are small and can be a little fiddly to start with, but once you know what you are doing it is quick and easy.
The Width of the light is approx 8.5 inches and the height is approx 8.5 inches.
Ease of Use
The light is quick and easy to set up, the buttons on the top are a little small and are also white making it tricky to see them but once you have set it up a few times you quickly become use to knowing what to do. Ince you have set the time you want the alarm to go off and the other settings such as alarm sound, radio station etc it will remember these and all you need to do is activate it each night.
If you have set the alarm to wake you up for 6.30am with a 30 minutes light duration then the wake up light shall kick into action at 6am, starting off with a soft orange glow before building up to the maximum brightness you set it at, then at 6.30am if you set a sound or radio to go off too then this will fade in.
If you are lying in bed facing the light you may find you start to wake up 5-10minutes earlier as the bright light wakes you, where as if you are facing away from it then the light may need to be brighter and you may not awake till 6.30am as you set it. When using it for the first few nights you can adjust the settings to find how bright it needs to be to wake you up so that you feel awake close to your wake up time and not earlier.

The Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock HF3510/01 is a stylish and sleek looking clock and bedside light on its own. The simple settings and strong brightness makes it easy and relaxing to be woken up in the mornings. The added function of the FM radio is great if you like to listen to the radio in the morning, however this can all be disabled too unlike other models.
At around £100 it is not cheap, but it does make getting up in the morning a lot easier and enjoyable. It helps wake you up and also the sunset feature helps you sleep too, the bedside reading light feature which is adjustable is also another great feature, so although its pricey price tag, it has a lot of features included and is more than just an alarm clock.
This is a great all rounder and certainly worth looking at buying.
